Schools are crucial sites where the social value of believing children are our future is manifested.
This session will use the idea of a “capacity to aspire” to frame opportunities for schools to support children and young people to develop more productive and positive orientations to the future.
Dr Fiona Longmuir
Fiona Longmuir is a Lecturer in Educational Leadership in the Faculty of Education, Monash University, with a background of 15 years of teaching and school leadership in Victorian government schools in disadvantaged, urban communities. Fiona also worked for 10 years as a Senior Research Consultant for Educational Transformations where she examined school and system leadership in a range of local, national and global contexts. Her current research interests explore intersections of educational leadership, transformative change and student voice. Recent projects have investigated: school leadership through the COVID crisis, and secondary school programs and alternative education settings where leaders prioritise student agency, belonging and connection.
